The ZBW-12 Pre-installed American Box Type Substation is engineered with a compact structure and reduced volume, measuring only about 1/3 to 1.5 times that of comparable domestic European box transformers, significantly minimizing its footprint.

Fuse
The high voltage side of Pre-installed American Box Type Substation is equipped with comprehensive protection by incorporating both backup protection fuse and plug-in fuse. This system is straightforward in principle, cost-effective, and dependable. The backup protection fuse is an oil-immersed high-voltage current-limiting fuse with substantial breaking capacity. It is engaged only when internal transformer issues arise. The plug-in fuse includes a dual-sensitive fuse, offering dual protection against current and temperature. When the dual-sensitive fuse is activated, the fuse core can be conveniently replaced on site.
Structure and operation sequence

1. The layout

For the shape and structure of 10kV ZBW-12 Pre-installed American Box Type Substation, refer to Figures 2 and 3. The oil tank is bifurcated into two sections: the upper section for high-voltage oil and the lower section for transformer oil. Though they are electrically connected, the oil flow is segregated. The schematic is presented in Figure 1, illustrating the loop network feeders ("I" and "I" lines), transformer branches ("ll" branches), and low-voltage output ("V"). The substation is versatile, suitable for both ring network power supply systems and terminal systems, with seamless conversion capabilities. The line and branch "l" feed are operated via the ring network's load switch. Additionally, the high-voltage side's incoming terminal is equipped with backup protection fuses and plug-in fuses to shield against short-circuits, overloads, and overtemperature conditions. High-voltage display devices and lightning arresters are also installable. The transformer's low-voltage end outputs after processing through a meter and low-voltage circuit breaker.

1. The transformer

KEXR Pre-installed American Box Type Substation incorporates the innovative S9 and S11 series three-phase oil-immersed transformers, renowned for their low no-load loss, minimal temperature rise, diminished noise, and compact height. The transformer's no-load and load losses are significantly lower than those of the original S9 model, aligning with current domestic advanced standards. This transformer employs a fully sealed structure, effectively shielding against air pollution and insulation degradation due to moisture. It features an air cushion of 40-90mm atop the oil tank, which, coupled with the oil tank shell's corrugations, facilitates heat dissipation and cooling, thereby reducing internal pressure efficiently.

1. Backup Protection Fuse

The backup protection fuse is ingeniously connected in series with the plug-in fuse in the transformer branch (refer to R1 and R2 in Figure 2) to establish a comprehensive full-range protection fusion. Its design ensures that it only activates during an internal short-circuit fault within the substation, making the likelihood of activation exceptionally low. This crucial component is housed in the upper oil tank, and any updates require the tank to be opened.
 

1. Plug-in Fuse

This advanced plug-in fuse features a melting core that is impressively sensitive to both temperature and current fluctuations. It activates and melts to protect your system whenever there's a load-side failure, whether due to overload or excessive temperature. Working in tandem with the backup protection fuse, this duo offers unparalleled protection across a vast range of currents-from small currents measured in the lower range to massive currents reaching up to several tens of kiloamperes. Its robust design ensures a maximum breaking current capacity of 50kA.
The strategic and precise matching of the backup fuse with the plug-in fuse is pivotal to the optimal performance of the entire substation.
